Return to the entrance where an Oriental polychrome
wooden horse guards the staircase.
The staircase leads us to the first floor which overlooks
the dining room. From this vantage point the combination
of the depth of this room and the delicate chimney is even
more impressive.

Three bed rooms and their individual adjoining bathrooms
share this floor. The first bedroom, accessed by
a suspended crossing, is the Chinese room.

In this room the twin beds can be combined to make
a large, single bed. An antique, elm altar serves as
a dressing table. A mysterious cupboard stands facing
the "traveller's armchair", a relic left by bygone Chinese
nobles come on holiday.
Pale stone and dark wood, simplicity and rarity, light
and shadows, silk and linen, red sanguine and tender green
all join together in this unique room.

The adjoining bathroom opens onto the protective greenery
of the plane tree and the yard beyond.
